Apple Sends Out Media Invites For Special Event On October 23rd

Just as we expected, Apple has sent out media invites for an event which they are going to host in the California Theatre, San Jose, dated 23rd October.

It is widely speculated that Apple will utilize this event to announce the elusive iPad Mini, the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, a refreshed line-up of iMacs and a brand new Mac mini.

The rumor mill has thrown up a number of theories as to Apple’s supposed ‘iPad Mini’ endeavors, and whilst a fair few may have thought the elusive device was nothing more than an out-of-control rumor, the Cupertino company has today announced a special event to be held in a weeks’ time, on October 23rd, 2012.

Usually, Apple’s keynotes are held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, but in a change to the usual schedule, this particular event will occur at the California Theatre in San Jose. Although the announcement perhaps doesn’t silence all of the naysayers and skeptics, it’s the first official indication that the smaller slate will indeed be launching this month.

It’s expected to pack in a 7.85-inch display, and although it won’t be of the Retina grade in terms of pixels-per-inch, in offering the same resolution as the iPad 2 on a smaller diameter, it’ll certainly be very sharp. We’ve learned today that there could be as many as twelve different configurations of the iPad Mini, with a Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G LTE offering in each of the 8, 16, 32 and 64 GB storage capacities.

Various leaks of internal parts, as well as a bunch of mockups, have given anxious tech fans a depiction to match the continual rumors, but given Apple’s knack for a well-crafted cover-up, don’t be surprised if the smaller iPad doesn’t wind up looking as many of us presumed it would.

Several insights have suggested ballpark figures for pricing, and although nobody seems certain of how much it will cost, $249-$299 seems a reasonable prediction.

A few months back, there were murmurs Apple would go all Crayola and offer the downscaled slab in a variety of colors, however it seems certain it’ll come in the old faithful black / white combinations.

So, there you have it guys. Apple will be holding a special event next week Tuesday, and we’re pretty excited about the prospect of the iPad Mini finally rearing its head. As is always the case with events of this kind, we’ll have all the news and announcements as they’re made, so make sure you stay tuned to our coverage here at Redmond Pie.
