Apple Releases watchOS 3.1.1 Beta 2 And tvOS 10.1 Beta 2

Alongside iOS 10.2, Apple has also released watchOS 3.1.1 beta 2 and tvOS 10.1 beta 2 for Apple Watch and Apple TV users respectively. Here are the details.

watchOS 3.1.1 beta 2 comes just one week after the release of the first developer seed, with this latest tvOS 10.1 beta also coming around seven days after the initial appearance of tvOS 10.1, and about over a month after Apple introduced tvOS 10 to the public. Both updates represent the future of the platforms, and are available for developers to download and test right now.

As you might expect from a relatively minor 3.1.x update, this latest seed doesn’t seem to contain any impressive, or even notable for that matter, outward-facing changes that are immediately available to anyone interacting with it. As part of the progression of watchOS as a platform, Apple has chosen to focus on introducing under-the-hood improvements that should hopefully eradicate any known bugs and issues, as well as offering a more streamlined performance for all Apple Watch owners.

As always, watchOS 3.1.1 beta 2 can be downloaded through the stock Watch app that can be found on the connected iPhone’s Home screen. In the app, navigating to General > Software Update section should get you the new update.

To coincide with the release of watchOS 3.1.1 beta 2, Apple has also issued the same developers with a second seed of tvOS 10.1. As we already know, tvOS 10.1 has introduced the highly-anticipated Single Sign-on feature that Apple has been teasing for quite some time. That feature allows Apple TV owners to use one single set of credentials that then gives access to all available cable content where applicable and in supported apps.

Single Sign-on may be supported with tvOS 10.1, but the recently introduced “TV” app is yet to make an official appearance. The rest of the update appears to have been released as part of Apple’s dedication to progressing the platform and introducing bug fixes and security improvements where necessary. For those that have a beta configuration profile installed on the Apple TV, this latest tvOS 10.1 beta 2 seed can be downloaded and installed as an over-the-air update immediately.
