2016 12-Inch MacBook Vs 2015 Model Benchmarks Score Comparison

One of Apple’s worst-kept secrets is now out, with the 2016 12-inch MacBook now a reality. Featuring improved CPU and graphical capabilities, the new MacBooks not only come in a fancy new Rose Gold color, but also outperform the older models by approximately 20% in benchmarks.

Benchmarks have already started to appear for the latest 2016 iteration of Apple’s 12-inch MacBook, with Geekbench developer John Poole posting scores for the notebook in comparison with its predecessor from 2015. The tool used runs a series of tests and outputs a score based on a device’s performance characteristics, allowing devices to be compared with one another. According to Poole’s Geekbench 3 results, which have been shared through the tool’s website, the new MacBooks are around 20% faster than their older counterparts, just as we might expect.

The machine used in the benchmarks was the new 1.2GHz Intel Core m5-6Y54-powered device, with other aspects of the machine’s configuration kept as close to last year’s model as possible – 8GB of RAM was used in both machines, for example. For those who like their numbers, the single-core score came in at 2670 compared to the 2015 model’s 2303. The multi-core test from the early-2016 MacBook resulted in a score of 5252 compared with the 4621 of last year’s model.

The newly updated MacBook lineup is available to buy now, with the 1.1GHz processor model carrying a $1,299 price tag and the 1.2GHz variant with upgraded storage costing $1,599. While the new internals are sure to help keep the machines ticking along nicely, it’s the externals that will get the most attention. Apple chose to stick with its one-USB port decision for the MacBook while also introducing a new Rose Gold color option. Neither of those decisions will make a huge amount of sense to many, but we’re sure someone inside Apple thought it was a good idea. At least the new machines are faster, though.
